Primavera Cycles was founded in 2004 with the object of designing and producing high quality bicycle components that are 100% Made in Taiwan. We design and produce in-house.

The name Primavera was chosen for a number of closely related reasons. It means 'spring' in Italian and a number of other European languages and carries with it a number of positive associations.

The bicycle was, at base, a product of the European Renaissance, the 'springtime' of learning after the 'winter' of the Dark Ages and its continuation in the form of the French enlightenment and ultimately Pierre Michaux along with Aimé and René Olivier.

Latin was the cultural and scientific language of that period; its center was Italy. Add to that the impact that Italian cyclists and bike makers have had on the bicycle industry, the choice seemed to fit a new bike brand very well. The locus of the bicycle industry may have shifted East, but its glory is still to be found in its Western roots.

And speaking of the shift of the bicycle production industry to the East, the world's most prestigious bike brands now depend on the technical expertise and efficiencies found in Taiwan's bicycle industry as a key support of their brand's excellence.

As a brand of Taiwanese origin, 'Primavera' taps into and by doing so acknowledges the cultural value of the European bicycle cultural heritage just as European bike producers tap into the technical advantages and excellence of Taiwan's bike industry. It inverts the terms of the relationship and reflects where the industry is at in the 21st century.
